Using the Resources
Which resources are hidden from students?
Test and Assessment resources are classified as Teacher-only and therefore automatically hidden from the student library.
Teacher-only resources include Teacher notes, Technician notes, answers and Test Yourself activities.
If you would like your students to access any Teacher-only resources, we would recommend creating an assignment to include these.
Why are the resources not displaying properly?
If you are experiencing difficulties viewing resources on Kerboodle, please check the following (or ask your school technician to do so):
- Pop-ups are allowed from http://live.kerboodle.com
- The latest version of Flash Player is installed
- Your Temporary Internet Files/CACHE is cleared (CTRL + F5)

Student and Teacher Accounts
What is the Unique ID and why is it mandatory for all Students and Teachers?
The Unique ID is used by Kerboodle to prevent duplicate Student and Teacher accounts within your organisation.
The Unique ID is also used when updating your accounts; it’s possible to overwrite existing information, for example registration year and class, by keeping the Unique ID the same.
One way of ensuring that the Unique ID is unique to that particular Student or Teacher, is to use a code from your school management system which identifies them.
How can I stop a Student or Teacher from logging into Kerboodle?
You are able to disable Kerboodle accounts if you are an Administrator. You may need to do this for security reasons, or if a Teacher leaves the school.
Disabling a Student account will stop them from logging in, but you will still be able to access their work and reports. You can enable the account again if needed.
What is the difference between deleted accounts and leavers?
Leavers no longer have access to Kerboodle but can be restored if they return. Student reports will still be accessible to teachers, but you will not be able to create a new account with the same username or unique ID.
Deleting an account will remove all account details from Kerboodle, including saved work and reports. Deleted accounts cannot be reinstated.
Using Kerboodle With Your Students
How do I give my students access to Courses and Kerboodle Books?
When student accounts are created on Kerboodle, they are not automatically given access to Kerboodle Books or Courses; they need to be assigned within a Teaching Group.
Teaching Groups allow you to group your students into their teaching classes and give them access to the relevant books and courses.
What is a Group Code?
The Group Code option is available when creating or editing your Teaching Groups. Instead of adding students individually, the code allows your students to join your Teaching Group.
Add the Course and Book to your Teaching Group; tell your students the Group Code and ask them to login and join your Teaching Group.
Please Note: A Group Code needs to contain 6 or more letters and/or numbers and must be unique to your organisation (you will be prompted if your code is not unique).

What will happen to my Teaching Groups each year?
Teaching Groups remain unaffected year on year so your Students will still be grouped and assigned to their courses and Kerboodle Books.
Owners of Teaching Groups and Administrators are able to edit groups if there are any changes that need to be made.
How can I track my students’ progress on Kerboodle?
When completing interactive activities from the course as part of an Assignment, students will receive on-screen feedback. Interactive activities are designed for the students’ independent learning.
If you’ve asked that students are able to return a document to you through the assignment, then you will have the option to give a score for the work and add an overall comment. All Test Yourself activities will be automatically marked by Kerboodle.
Student Results & Progress Report – An overview of your students’ progress for both Test Yourself activities and Assignments can be found on the Course page. Show Me How
Reports tab – View comprehensive reports for individual Students, Teaching Groups and the Course. Click on the Reports button from any Course page.
Can we stop Students from using the Messaging system?
In March 2013, the default messaging preference for all organisations was changed to Student-Teacher Messaging only. Students are no longer able to send or receive messages to/from fellow students. Teachers can still message both their colleagues and students.
If you would prefer, your organisation’s preference can be changed to Disabled. Nobody within the organisation will have access to messaging. Teachers will be unable to send resources, lessons or assignment reminders.
Before contacting us to change your preference, please confirm with ALL departments using Kerboodle that they are happy for the change to go ahead. The preference will be changed for the whole organisation.
Contact firstname.lastname@example.org from your official school email address with the below information:
- Organisation Code
- School name
- Your name
- Your role within the school
Managing Your Courses
How can I manage what is shown on my homepage?
Kerboodle is a whole school service; each department can purchase subscriptions separately but they are all registered to your Organisation and will show on your homepage.
To hide any Kerboodle Books or Courses from your homepage, click on Manage Courses.
Why doesn’t my copied course show new resources?
Creating a copy takes a snapshot of the course as it is at the time of copying. New resources from Nelson Thornes will not show in copied courses. This is so that the control over what students can and cannot see stays with the teacher.
Please note: Any changes to existing resources will automatically update, e.g. if a broken web link is fixed.
What are cookies and why do they need to be enabled for me to use Kerboodle?

You may decline to use these cookies, however we do not recommend this as some functionality will either be no longer available or impaired.
